After making himself heard at legendary events such as Universe, Ultimate Base, Slump, Voodoo and Tribal Gathering, as well as DJing alongside well respected artists the world over, Mat has stayed true to the music that means so much to him.

'When I started getting into music by the likes of The Clash, FSOL, B.A.D, Plastikman, Sabres, Tubby, Black Dog etc I started to see the whole scene like a combustion engine, cogs, gears and pistons working together to form a system. I wanted to contribute my own set of cogs into that system, keep the beast turning and to keep it evolving.'

From his vast array of influences Mat is a DJ not to be pinned down to any one style and constantly delivers a full spectrum of sounds from the cutting edge to forgotten gems. He is continually working on new material and projects in his studio, organizing regular events and hunting down new music for Varial Records, a label that continues to raise the bar.

As a DJ one of Mat's strongest attributes is his ability to deliver multi-layered hypnotic grooves by fusing techno, dubbed glitch house, retro, electro, new wave, down tempo and other related styles. The words 'innovation', 'hedonism', 'emotion' and 'atmosphere' resonate loudly wherever Mat performs.

His studio productions are those of someone who wears their influences on their sleeve. Deeply respectful of the scenes forebearers, Mat is proud about acknowledging his inspirations from fellow musicians, anime, film & video games to the outdoors, technology and the day-to-day emotions of life.

'Things are always very visual to me, when I work on new material I will always find images, characters, settings and stuff like that drawing themselves in my head, a story if you like unfolds as the sounds progress and this then helps me to create the path for my music. I have my collection of records, books, icons, comics and toys in my studio, which act as triggers, inspiring and encouraging me to immerse myself. Some people may say it's escapism but to me its simply part of my life'.

Hardware-based equipment activated by digital boxes and fuelled by a very colourful imagination are the tools of Mat’s music. Analogue bass and raw synth lines hang under pulsing 4/4 rhythms and electroid movements, layered alongside organic echoic effects and smatterings of emotive charm colliding serenely with reflective discord. Always progressive, Mat's own vocals have also begun to feature in his productions of late, much to the applause of new and faithful followers alike.
